Best brand activations of 2026: ten moments where people lined up, traded, and posted, how to measure one, and the design rule most of them shared.

In June, World Cup fans collected free bracelets in 11 host cities.

The best brand activations of 2026 handed people a job. Fans collected beads, posted selfies for their state, lined up before dawn, and told stories into a booth. A brand activation is a live moment a brand stages so people do something with it, not just see it. These ten ran from February to August.

The 10 best brand activations of 2026

01 · Levi's: Home Turf at Super Bowl LX

Sports · February 5 to 7 · San Francisco

Levi's took over One Montgomery in the Financial District the week Super Bowl LX came to Levi's Stadium. CEO Michelle Gass called it "about more than a game," per Retail Dive. My read: a San Francisco company hosted the party at home, so fans came for their city.

02 · Harry Styles: 16 album pop-ups

Entertainment · March 6 · worldwide

Harry Styles released "Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally." on March 6 and opened 16 pop-up shops worldwide, per NBC New York. Hundreds of fans lined up on Atlanta's Beltline, per Georgia Public Broadcasting. Brands use the same format: I broke down Bloom Nutrition's NYC market pop-up. A pop-up turns a private stream into a place where fans find each other.

03 · McDonald's: First Job Confessional

Community · March 6 to July 29 · four cities

McDonald's toured a confessional booth styled like its order kiosk through New York, Austin, Pittsburgh, and Chicago. People recorded a short video about their first job for a $15 gift card, per QSR Magazine. The brand says 1 in 8 Americans has worked there. McDonald's let customers tell a first-job story it already owns.

04 · Cheez-It: Kon's Double Double bundle

CPG · March 26 · cheezit.com

Cheez-It put Charlotte Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel on a $20 bundle of White Cheddar and Extra Toasty. The first drop sold out right away, per Distractify, and a restock followed on April 6. A cracker box became a collectible.

05 · Carpet Company: the Baltimore flagship line

Community · April 11 · Baltimore

Carpet Company, a Baltimore streetwear brand, opened its Station North flagship. The first person in line arrived at 2:55 a.m. for an 11 a.m. opening, per The Baltimore Banner. Fans drove in from Northern Virginia and New Jersey to wait in that line.

06 · Bank of America: BofA Fan Bands

Sports · June 11 to July 19 · 11 U.S. host cities

Bank of America built free World Cup bracelets with 140 collectible beads. It gave away more than 700,000 Fan Bands in the tournament's first two weeks, per its June 29 release. New beads arrived with each knockout round. A bank gave fans a reason to trade with strangers.

07 · Joyride: the 50 States Challenge

CPG · June 13 · Instagram and YouTube

Joyride, the candy brand co-owned by YouTuber Ryan Trahan, gave fans 24 hours to post a geotagged selfie with a Joyride bag. The winning state got its own candy. Fans posted 11,495 approved photos for a Guinness World Record, and the livestream drew more than 2.6 million views, per Mass Market Retailers. Idaho won huckleberry Potato Wedges. The prize went to a state, not a person.

08 · Visit Seattle: the drone scoreboard

Community · June 15 to July 6 · Seattle Center

Visit Seattle flew 400 drones by the Space Needle after each of the city's six World Cup matches, per its June 22, 2026 release. Each free 12-minute show spelled out the final score. Michelob ULTRA flew more than 2,500 drones in Santa Monica that month, per Event Marketer. Seattle put news in the sky: the score of the match you just watched.

09 · Stella Artois: Work From Bar

CPG · June and July · bars nationwide and New York

Weekday matches fell during U.S. work hours. Stella Artois told fans 21 and older to watch from a bar and submit the receipt as an "expense report." It set aside up to $100,000 and opened a Work From Bar HQ at Brookfield Place on June 28, per The Source. Stella named a real conflict and gave people permission to leave the desk.

10 · Buddy: the orange unicorn in the wild

Entertainment · July and August · Los Angeles, New York, San Diego

Roadside Attractions and Saban Films sent the orange unicorn from the horror film Buddy into theaters, fitness classes, and Comic-Con before its August 28 release. The Buddy TikTok account neared 1 million followers, and its top video hit 10.9 million views, per Event Marketer. A mascot people follow also drives Duolingo's social media strategy. Its second weekend grossed $5.7 million, up from a $5.3 million opening, per TheWrap in September 2026. That is word of mouth on a box office report.

What do the best brand activations of 2026 have in common?

The best brand activations of 2026 gave people a verb. Most of the ten did: collect, compete, confess, line up, trade, expense it. The rest gave people somewhere to be.

Most also sent people home with an object. The object is proof you were there, and proof gets posted.

The appetite was measurable. More than 9,017,000 people went to FIFA Fan Festivals this summer, the most since 2006, per FIFA's July 27 release. Before the tournament, Eventbrite counted U.S. World Cup events up 403 percent over 2022. In the six months ending June 10, 2026, Eventbrite also counted U.S. attendance up 572 percent.

My position: 2026 rewarded brands that designed the participation first and the spectacle second. I would back the 400-drone scoreboard over the 2,500-drone show: it gave people a score to share.

How do you measure a brand activation?

Count what people did. Bank of America could count bands handed out, and Joyride could count approved selfies. I would set that target before the build, then track second visits, which new knockout-round beads were built to drive.

Before your next activation, answer three questions:

  1. What will people do? Name the verb.
  2. What will they take home? The object is the proof they were there.
  3. What will you count? Set the number before the build.

I write the verb before I book the venue. It is the rule I want to work by in experiential marketing. I built a concept on that rule for Pi Mai Lao, the Lao New Year: one free celebration a city plans its weekend around.

Which 2026 activation would you add to this list? Tell me in the comments.
